Last time I went to the hairdresser, I was mesmerized by pictures of models in the so called “fashion magazines”. Did all those years living out of the First World totally disconnected me with the Real meaning of Style? So glad I came across this post to make me feel normal. It made me laugh so hard that I had to share. Enjoy 😉
Here’s an advertising trend that comes up every now and then: putting glamorous apparel on models made to look sad/greasy/hostile. I’m stumped by this. Why would it help sell an outfit to show that outfit on a person who looks miserable? There must be a method to this madness, or so many designers wouldn’t be doing it. But what? What’s the thinking?
To get my head around the idea, I tried to envision how each of these ads came to be, by imagining a conversation among these characters:
Ad Exec: Mike
Photographer: Steve
Models: Zelda, Daphne, Marcia, Lisette, Brenda, Chloe and Babs

It does seem to be ‘the fashion’ for models to look sad, mad, unfriendly and downright miserable. When I see the occasional fashion show on TV, I just shake my head in wonder. After, as that song from Annie tells us, “You’re never fully dressed without a smile.” 🙂
I didn’t know this song and I just love this quote! 🙂
I was not aware of this new fashion trend until I read all those magazines last week. What a contrast with the Philippines where all the magazines and TV people are smiling up to their ears and singing .. And they are definitely not skinny, they do look healthy 🙂
Hilarious – and so true! (sadly) I almost spit out my water when she talked about running salad dressing through their hair!
Me too !! And Chloe’s look that says, “My dad ran over my puppy.”is too perfect 😀
Simply ridiculous, I really don’t get the fashion world.. I took a class last year on Fashion Industry, and man, it is really far far from me. The porno chic, now the totally depressed looks, how can people feel attracted by those brands, it is a mystery to me ..
